I just gave Bistro Jeanty another half star (so four from three and a half). The past few times I’ve been here, they have always been solid. The food is always good and the service is always humming.
When I went this weekend though, I ate with a large group of nine. I was curious to see how the food and service would turn out, as many times a restaurant that provides a solid experience with a party of four can fail miserably with a group larger than six.
I wasn’t disappointed. The food was just as good, if not better than usual. The service was friendly, and I never had to wait too long for my water glass to be filled (especially important on a steaming hot day!). I tried the pork belly with lentils and foie gras dish for the first time and it was excellent. The famous tomato soup with puff pastry was a tad oily but otherwise had good flavor. I also loved the steamed mussels and steak tartare. My friend’s beef stew was absolutely tender and delicious. I didn’t especially like the escargot, but I still haven’t had an escargot I truly liked, so they are not to be blamed. The lemon sorbet was a refreshing way to end the meal.
Much better than Bouchon up the road, and I’m a Keller fan!

One of my favorite steak tartares and if I remember correctly, the portion is huge!
